Get ready, folks. The D-day is here. The much-awaited tournament is set to get underway later today. The eleventh edition of the world’s best T20 league, the Indian Premier League, will get kicked off later today with three-times champions Mumbai Indians taking on the two-time winners and the returning Chennai Super Kings in a mouth-watering clash at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
Mumbai Indians will be raring to go as the defending champions will look to win their fourth IPL crown. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, will look to make a winning return to the IPL after they were suspended from taking part in the tournament for the last two years because of their owner’s involvement in IPL spot-fixing and betting.
Both the teams have a solid batting line-up with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Evin Lewis, Suresh Raina etc. in their ranks. Mumbai’s batting order is all but settled but they have their own headaches in choosing the right bowling combination. Akila Dhananjeya, Mitchell McClenaghan and Mustafizur Rahman are vying for one spot and it will be interesting to see who gets the nod in the XI. The Superkings also have a selection headache as they might be split between choosing an overseas pacer and an Indian middle-order batsman/pacer or an overseas batsman and an Indian pacer.
Let us take a look at how the teams will line up for the tournament opener.
IPL 2018 MI Probable playing 11
Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan (WK), Rohit Sharma (c), Surya Kumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Rahul Chahar, Pat Cummins, Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell McClenaghan.
IPL 2018 CSK Probable playing 11
Murali Vijay, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (C and WK), Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Lungi Ngidi and Imran Tahir.
Mumbai have a better batting line-up while the Superkings just edge their arch-rivals ahead in the bowling department. So, the winner between CSK bowling and MI batting will win the match.
