Chasing a modest total of 156 to win, Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a disastrous start as they lost the wicket of Brendon McCullum in the first over and then the wicket of a well-set Virat Kohli later in the field restriction overs, thanks to a gem of a delivery from Mujeeb ur Rahman.

IPL 2018 RCB vs KXIP 8th Match Review

It was when AB de Villiers joined his Protea teammate Quinton de Kock at the crease and the duo complemented each other and looked threatening to take take the game away from the opposition. They put on a 54-run partnership for the third wicket before the wicketkeeper-bat was castled by R Ashwin for 45. Off the very next ball, Ashwin sent back Sarfaraz Khan who offered a simple catch to the slip fielder.

De Villiers, in the company of Mandeep Singh, tried to pull things back and took his side to 115/4 after 16 overs. With 41 runs needed off 24 balls, Mujeeb came on to bowl and that over was the turning point of the match as both the batsmen smashed him all over the park and score 19 runs off the 17th over to take their team close to a win.

They almost sealed the game for their team but unfortunately, lost their wickets towards the end of the innings. Thankfully, Washington Sundar hit a couple of boundaries and took his team home.

AB de Villiers top-scored for RCB with 57 while R Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/30. Earlier in the match, Kings XI managed to score just 155 in their innings in spite of a brilliant start from KL Rahul, who scored a 30-ball 47. Umesh Yadav, with figures of 3/23 and Washington Sundar with figures of 2/22 restricted the visitors to a below-par total.

 Turning point of the match

Umesh Yadav’s second over in which he conceded just 4 runs and took the wickets of Mayank Agarwal, Aaron Finch and Yuvraj Singh.
