Less than a week after winning the Asia Cup 2018, the Indian cricket team will be in action again in a different country, different format and under a different a different captain. India takes on West Indies in the first of the two-match Test series which gets underway in Rajkot on October 4
Regular skipper Virat Kohli is back at the helm after he was rested from the Asia Cup 2018. Kohli will hope that the team improves their performance from their recently-concluded tour of England where they lost the Test series 4-1 and will look to use this series as an opportunity for the upcoming tour of Australia.
The selectors have made some tough calls as they have dropped opener Shikhar Dhawan and middle-order batsman Karun Nair for the two-match Test series. They also rewarded consistent performers in domestic cricket, Mayank Agarwal and Mohammed Siraj with a place in the Test side. West Indies, on the other hand, come into this series hoping that they will give the world number 1 side in the format some competition. West Indies haven’t won a Test series of late but have managed to win matches against quality oppositions every now and then. Skipper Jason Holder will have his task cut out when he leads his side in India.
Pitch: The wicket at the SCA stadium in Rajkot is expected to be a better and one can expect the batsmen to dominate the bowlers throughout the match.
Team news: The Indian announced the 12 ahead of the match and have left out Mayank, Siraj and middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari from the provisional squad. West Indies will not be having their premier fast bowler Kemar Roach as the Barbados pacer has traveled back home after the death of his grandmother.
