The 2018 Asia Cup is just a day away and the teams are already in the United Arab Emirates training and getting ready for the Asian Supremacy.
The first match will be between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Dubai and there will be a total of 13 matches that will be played among the six teams With Indian skipper Virat Kohli, the tournament has already lost its star power as the right-hander is someone who is able to draw crowds to watch the game. However, the tournament still has a lot of stars who can keep the fans engaging. But, in the absence of Kohli, the tournament will not have its best batsman. Having said that, there are chances that other batsmen will be looking to prove their worth and earn themselves “the best batsman in Asia” tag.
Without a doubt, Rohit Sharma is one of the best ODI batsmen going around at the moment, which is very evident by his consistent performances over the last few years. His opening partner, Shikhar Dhawan, is also someone who has been going well in white ball cricket even if his performances with the red ball are not pleasing. The Indian opening batsmen will look to stamp their authority and make amends with the bat in the absence of Kohli.
Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has been in fine form ever since making his debut for Pakistan. Fakhar helped Pakistan to glory in the 2017 Champions Trophy and kept his good work going by scoring heavily in the bilateral series that followed. A couple of months back, he became the first Pakistan batsman to score in ODI double century and he will look to score well and win the Asia Cup for Pakistan.
His opening partner Imam ul Haq and middle-order batsman Babar Azam cannot be ruled out as well. Tamim Iqbal has always done well in Asia Cup and will look to continue the same in UAE over the next couple of weeks. In the absence of Dinesh Chandimal, Sri Lanka will expect their senior batsmen Upul Tharanga and Angelo Mathews to contribute with the bat.
Out of all these batsmen, it is likely that either Rohit Sharma or Fakhar Zaman will be the tournament’s leading run scorer. It will be a wise move if you put your money on the Indian captain to outscore Fakhar as ODI is his fortress and he can do things which other batsmen can only dream of.
