The 2018 Asia Cup is all set to get underway in the United Arab Emirates in a day’s time with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh taking on each other in the first match at Dubai on Saturday (September 15).
The moment the tournament was shifted to Dubai from India, the bowlers taking part in the tournament would have started to lick their lips as they are likely to get more support in the middle east compared to the Indian sub-continent.
All the six teams taking part in the tournament have loaded their team with bowlers, which is a sensible call given the conditions on offer. Pakistan have the best bowling unit among all the six teams as they have the likes of Mohammad Amir, Junaid Khan and Hassan Ali in the fast bowling department. All three have the ability to generate both conventional swing and reverse swing and will keep the opposition batsmen on their toes. Adding to their pace bowling unit, Pakistan has a world-class spinner in Shadab Khan, who has done well in UAE in the past.
India, on the other hand, have Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, who can destroy any team on their day. Both the bowlers are capable of bowling in the death overs and with the new ball and this is something that makes them special.
India also has Kuldeep Yadav, who has been bamboozling the batsmen since making his debut. Playing Kuldeep is very difficult, thanks to his unorthodox bowling style and he is surely a contender to be the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. However, Kuldeep is expected to face a tough competition from Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, who is arguably the greatest spinner in the world at the moment.
Rashid’s ability to bowl both leg-spinners and googly without a change in his action and arm speed makes him a lethal bowler and with the conditions in UAE aiding him, he can run through the opposition line-up with ease.
Apart from these names, there are bowlers like Akla Dhananjeya, Shakib-al-Hasan, Mqshrafe Mortaza etc. who can be really challenging on the surfaces in UAE.
But, overtaking Hasan Ali will be a very difficult task as he is deadly with the old ball and can run past the opposition batsmen with ease.
