Trident Barbados won with the two run against Jamaica Tallawahs to record their second victory in three games in Florida on Wednesday, Aug 22. With the contribution of Steven Smith at 63 and Shai Hope with 43, the target achieved was 156 runs for 6 for Trident after a short period for Raymon Reifer to defend eight runs in the final to seal the win.
Tallawah continued the chase with Glenn Phillips and Charles Johnson putting up 80 runs for the first wicket in the initial nine overs. However, Tridents got a breakthrough after their unlikely bowler, Steve Smith, who sent both the openers back to the pavilion in the gap of five deliveries leaving the batting side at 82 for 2.
Tallawahs were still in the game, but could not find the final momentum. Kennar Lewis scored 17 runs out of 16, Ross Taylor stayed unbeaten for 26 runs off 28 while David while stayed at 25 runs. With the last nine runs required, Reifer tied Taylor to bring the equation to four more of 2 balls, eventually giving just two for his team helped accomplish the game and snatch the win.
Earlier, after a quieter start, Tridents were 39 for 3 in just seventh over, with their topmost reputed players in the pavilion. Smith and Hope worked together to score 103 runs partnership for the fourth wicket and took the team to 140 mark in 18th over. The Tridents also could not finish in style, but they managed to save moments for the night.
The man of the match award was given to Steve Smith for his all-around performance and bringing the team out of the critical situation. Though, Tallawah has lost all three in matches which has also affected its run rate standings. However, there are more 16 matches to be played before the playoff, so now nothing can be decided.
