The 2019 World Cup is fast approaching and most teams would have identified their strengths, weaknesses, strategies and the squads much in advance. Today, we take a look at how two-time champions India will line up in the extravaganza.
Without a doubt, India has the best opening combination going into the World Cup. Both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have shown what they are capable of in the 50-over format. With KL Rahul, who is striking the ball so well, waiting in the wings, it won’t be a surprise if the Karnataka batsman gets the nod to open the batting, demoting Rohit to number 4 to add more stability to the middle order. It looks unlikely that Virat Kohli will disturb a successful opening combination but be playing Rohit at 4 will certainly add a lot of value to the team.
Skipper Virat Kohli and former captain MS Dhoni are two of the best batsmen in the ODI format over the last decade and a half and they will be batting at number 3 and number 5 respectively. Dhoni, who is having a great 2018 IPL, will look to continue his golden run for 15 more runs and if he manages to do so, India is the firm favorites to bring the World Cup back home.
As many as three players are vying for the number 5 spot. Dinesh Karthik, who should what he is capable of in the Nidahas Trophy, the returning Suresh Raina and Kedar Jadhav, who has been an integral part of the side for a while, are the three contenders for the slot. In all likelihood, the southpaw among the three will get the nod ahead of other two, thanks to his bowling and fielding qualities.
Hardik Pandya will bring in a lot of balance for the team and will bat at number 7. The skipper will also expect the all-rounder to give 10 overs every match.
Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are two of the best spinners in the world and the duo will look to complement each other well and let the ball do the talking in the World Cup.
In Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian team has found a lethal fast bowling combination as both the bowlers are reliable with the new ball and in the death overs. One cannot easily take on both the pacers with ease.
In all likelihood, this will be the Indian playing XI in the 2019 ICC World Cup:
